Hallam Foe is an eccentric seventeen-year-old who misses his deceased mother, believing that his stepmother had a hand in her death. After discussing matters with his father, he leaves home and travels to Edinburgh where he becomes obsessed with Kate Breck due to her striking resemblance to his late mother. The two develop an unusual romance as Hallam works in Kate's hotel while growing up through challenging experiences.
